Kazakhstan mayor sacked over school latrine rape

ALMATY: The President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev dismissed Kairat Dosayev, the Mayor of Taraz, a southern city of the country, after the school latrine rape case triggered outrage in Kazakhstan.

The rape of a 12 year old student in a school latrine, this month, had caused public outrage over the officials’ negligence and poor school funding.

The incident is taken as the representative case that showed the ‘systemic shortcomings’ of the concerned authority in prioritizing the basic requirements.

Although the police have detained a 38 year old alleged rapist after being tracked down in school’s CCTV cameras, the public criticized the authorities for not heeding the priorities like school’s safety which finally led to the dismissal of the Mayor of the city of 360,000 population.
