Chinese planes become burden to Nepal Airlines

NAC paying Rs 250 million a year as interest

KATHMANDU: National flag carrier, Nepal Airlines Cooperation (NAC) will have to pay more than Rs 250 million a year to repay the interest for the Chinese planes that were bought from China in 2014.

The Chinese planes already incurred an annual loss of NRs 600 million in insurance and operating costs and already paying Rs 3 billion annually in interest for the purchase of four Chinese planes.

As the deadline for the loan repayment nearing, Nepal Airlines has opened that the Chinese planes have become a burden and expecting assistance from the government to get rid of Chinese planes.

NAC also wants to revamp its domestic operations completely.

The 56th annual report of the office of Auditor General released in April 2019, shows that the Chinese made planes have been incurring heavy losses for Nepal Airlines every year since the purchase of Chinese planes.
