IPL 2020 auctions: Complete squads of all eight teams

MUMBAI: A total of 338 players went under the hammer in the IPL 2020 auctions, vying for the remaining 73 spots across eight franchises. 62 of these slots were filled with a total of 29 overseas players attracting successful bids.

A total of Rs 140 crore were spent on the auction day with Kings XI Punjab bidding for the most money – Rs 16.5 crore. Pat Cummins at Rs 15.5 crore became the most expensive overseas pick in IPL history. Glenn Maxwell, Chris Morris and Sheldon Cottrell followed at Rs 10.75 crore, Rs 10 crore and Rs 8.5 crore respectively.

Piyush Chawla ended as the most expensive Indian player with a whopping Rs 6.75 crore bid by CSK.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Purse left: Rs 15 lakh

No of open players slot: Three (two domestic, one overseas)

With Lungi Ngidi being a hit or a miss due to injuries, Chennai Super Kings needed a couple of overseas pace bowlers. Josh Hazlewood and Sam Curran have plugged the two slots. Veteran leg spinner Piyush Chawla also bagged a fat paycheck.

Mumbai Indians were pretty much settled with their core in Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Pandya brothers, Lasith Malinga and Kieron Pollard intact. They needed an extra opener and got that in the form of Chris Lynn.

Delhi Capitals had a couple of really handy buys in the form of all-rounders Chris Woakes and Marcus Stoinis. They picked Shimron Hetmyer as their finisher while Jason Roy and Alex Carey will serve as reserves.

Kolkata Knight Riders went into the auctions primarily looking for top order batsmen. It was also speculated that Dinesh Karthik might lose his captaincy this time around. Despite the selection of Eoin Morgan, who could have done the job, KKR have announced that Karthik will retain captaincy. The team has picked England top-order batsman Tom Banton and Australian pacer Pat Cummins as their top buys.

Kings XI Punjab already had a number of good batsmen and bowlers in their line-up but needed a few all-rounders to add balance. They had their wish fulfilled in the form of Glenn Maxwell, Deepak Hooda, James Neesham and Chris Jordan.

Royal Challengers Bangalore had as many as 18 slots to fill. They did fill 14 of them, pocketing Aaron Finch and Josh Philippe as their batsman while Kane Richardson and Dale Steyn were their pace bowling picks. All-rounder Chris Morris also landed a fortune.

Sunrisers Hyderabad were looking for Indian batsmen and all-rounders in the auction. They succeeded in bagging three quality Indian batsmen in Virat Singh, Priyam Garg and Sanjay Yadav. SRH also picked two overseas all-rounders in Mitchell Marsh and Fabian Allen.
