Sri Lanka’s PM to resign on Thursday

COLOMBO: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is set to resign from office this week, according to a spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office said.

Sudharshana Gunawardena said that the resignation letter will be sent to the President by tomorrow.

His resignation will pave the way for the newly-elected President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to name an interim cabinet.

Rajapaksa has earlier this week won the presidency by a sizable margin in Saturday’s vote. (Agencies)
