KATHMANDU: The cases of missing children in the country have been increasing lately compared to the previous years, a report unveiled by the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens said.
A total of 3,422 children — 1051 boys and 2371 girls — have been reported missing in the last fiscal year 2018/19, which is more by 1,112 than the corresponding period in 2017/18.
In the report released in Kathmandu on Wednesday, among those missing, 2,540 were found. Search for the missing ones was still on, the report said.
In 2017/18, a total of 2,330 children — 923 boys and 1,407 girls — had been reported missing, according to the report.
The report said that the apparent increase in the reported cases of missing was owing to the lapse on the part of the parents and guardians to report to the police upon finding them.
