Landslide at Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, five houses at risk

BHAKTAPUR: Five houses are at high risk when a landslide took place at Madhyapur Thimi municipality-1 this morning while digging a ditch for the construction of a water tank.

The landslide following the rainfall on Monday night has put five houses at high risk in course of constructing a water tank to resolve drinking water problem taking place at Madhyapur Thimi-1, 2 and 3, said chairperson of Madhyapur Thimi municipality-1.

He said that the landslide took place while constructing 500,000-liter capacity water tank at public land of ward no 1 at a cost of Rs 13.2 million of the government to resolve the drinking water problem at the area.

The landslide has also swept away the blacktopped road there. The goods of the houses, which are at the risk of landslide, have been shifted to safer places.

A team led comprising a member of House of Representatives, Mahesh Basnet, Chief District Officer, Narayan Bhatta, Mayor of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, Madan Sundar Shrestha, chiefs of security bodies, and chief of Nepal Electricity Authority and Nepal Water Supply Corporation inspected the site this morning.

On the occasion, Chief District Officer Bhatta said that the wall would be constructed from and other safety measures would be adopted from today itself to save the houses.
