Police, Biplav cadres exchange fire, one dead

SARLAHI: District leader of the Netra Bikram Chand Biplav-led outfit was killed in an exchange of fire with police on Thursday afternoon.

Sarlahi District In-charge of the outfit Kumar Poudel was killed in the exchange of fire at Lalbandhi of the district, Nepal Police Spokesperson DIG Bishworaj Pokharel told Khabarhub. Pokharel said that law enforcement agency was involved in the exchange of fire at Lalbandhi Municipality-1 near Lakhandevi stream.

He claimed that police opened fire in self-defense after the outfit members fired at police.

“The outfit members, on two motorcycles, opened fire at police as they ran toward the jungle,” he said, “Police fired in self-defense.”

Poudel died on the spot while three others made off following the firing. Police recovered a pistol and live bullets from Poudel’s possession.
