75 climbers ascend Mt Everest this season so far

KATHMANDU: A total of 75 climbers have reached the summit of Mount Everest, world’s highest peak this season so far.

According to the Department of Tourism, around 75 mountaineers have so far scaled the peak. It, however, said official confirmation is awaited.

Even though the initial days were favorable for climbing, climbers had to face a difficult time due to adverse weather condition.

Director at the Department of Tourism, Meera Acharya said the expedition is likely to resume from tonight.

Meanwhile, Gyanendra Shrestha, the government liaison officer said from the Everest Base Camp (EBC) that most of the climbers are above Camp II.

Last week, Kami Rita Sherpa, who made history by reaching the top of Mt Everest for the 23rd time is on a mission for the 24th ascent.

Likewise, several climbers have ascended Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Annapurna, and other peaks.

This season, a total of 868 people belonging to different 113 teams from 48 countries, including Nepal have obtained the route permits for climbing various 28 peaks in Nepal, including the Everest.

While 381 of 44 teams are for climbing the Everest, seven are domestic teams.
