41-year-old Shinji Aoba held for KyoAni arson attack



TOKYO: Police on Friday identified  41-year-old Shinji Aoba behind arson attack at Kyoto Animation studio that claimed 33 people in Japan in 20 years.

The suspect during a press meet today told police that he used gasoline to torch the renowned Kyoto Animation studio for plagiarizing his work and he also claimed himself as “mentally deranged.”

Kyoto Fushimi Police spokesperson Ryoji Nishiyama, however, said they were not yet aware of a link between the suspect and the studio in Kyoto’s Fushimi-ku district.

Twelve men, 20 women and another individual whose gender was unknown died in the blaze and   35 others sustained injuries. All of those who died were employees.
