Govt takes action against 19 vegetable traders

KATHMANDU: The government has taken action against as many as 19 vegetable traders for fleecing consumers by charging high price for vegetables and fruits.

Among those facing music are 11 from Balkhu Agriculture Vegetables Market and eight are from Kalimati Vegetable and Fruits Wholesale Market. They were fined Rs 8,000 to Rs 20,000 depending on their fraud for charging high price of vegetables.

The government monitored Kalimati Vegetable and Fruits Wholesale Market and  Balkhu Agriculture Vegetables Market after the consumers complained that the traders charged excessively high price for fruits and vegetables at the wholesale markets.

The inspection was carried out by a team deployed by the Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection Department from 3 am to 8 am on Friday. According to Yogendra Gauchan, director general of the Department, two teams had been deployed in the wholesale markets.
