NA, US Army Pacific launch disaster response exercise



POKHARA: Nepal Army (NA) and the US Army Pacific on Sunday jointly launched disaster response exercise and exchange of cooperation in Pokhara.

Brigadier General Jit Bahadur Gurung, Director at NA Disaster Management Directorate, informed that representatives from 12 countries including the US, the UK, Mongolia, Thailand, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka were invited for the joint exercise.

Gurung said various events such as talk show and group discussion on disaster management would also be held during the weeklong program.

Four such programs have been organized in Nepal since 2011 under the joint initiative of NA and US Army Pacific

Major Jonathan Syer of the US Army Pacific expressed his hope that the program would help reduce disaster risk in Nepal.

A total of 220 people participated in the program.
