Home Minister Gurung assures investigation after meeting Chitwan man seeking justice over wife’s death

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Sudan Gurung on Thursday met Sujan BK of Chitwan, who has been staging a protest in Kathmandu for the past three months demanding justice over the death of his wife, allegedly due to hospital negligence.

According to officials, BK, a resident of Ratnanagar Municipality in Chitwan, was invited to the Ministry of Home Affairs, where he shared his grievances directly with the Home Minister.

Carrying his infant child, BK told the minister that his wife had died prematurely following what he described as serious negligence by a hospital during the post-delivery period. He said inadequate care and treatment had cost his wife her life, leaving him to raise their newborn child alone.

During the meeting, BK appealed to the government to ensure accountability and justice for his family.

After listening to the victim’s concerns, Gurung expressed sympathy and said the government would take the matter seriously.

“The state is the guardian of its citizens. It is deeply unfortunate when someone loses their life due to alleged negligence by a hospital,” the Home Minister said. “The incident will be thoroughly investigated, and anyone found responsible will face strict legal action.”

Gurung instructed ministry officials to initiate the necessary process for a high-level investigation and ensure that the facts surrounding the case are established as quickly as possible.

He also pledged that any individual found guilty on the basis of the investigation report would be brought under the legal process and held accountable in accordance with the law.

BK has been campaigning for justice in Kathmandu since the death of his wife, drawing public attention to concerns over accountability in the healthcare sector.
