Police to be tough against gambling during Tihar



KATHMANDU: Police have adopted a stringent policy against any kind of gambling during Tihar, the second biggest festival of Hindus in Nepal.

n this connection, the police have implemented the special security plan aiming at the festival in tougher manner.

It is stated that a close watch has been started to check activities like gambling and betting that mostly take place during Tihar as these kinds of activities promoted anomaly, caused economic discrepancy and encouraged criminal activities in society.

Nepal Police spokesman Deputy Inspector General Bishwa Raj Pokharel urged the general public to extend cooperation to the police by informing the police in case any untoward activities are detected in their neighborhood, in order to make the Tihar, a festival that is celebrated wishing for happiness, peace , prosperity and mutual goodwill, peaceful and dignified.

He warned that the police would be tough against any sorts of hooliganism, gambling or indecent activities during the festival.

Police spokesman Pokharel argued that the criminal activities were minimized thanks to the Dashain festival’s special security plan, adding that they have also devised a similar plan to check activities like irresponsible fireworks and gambling during the upcoming Tihar festival as well.

He said the security personnel have been directed to remain on high alert. The Tihar festival falls on October 27, 28 and 29 this year.

According to him, police have also directed their attention to making the public transport services easy and smooth in view of the possible disturbances in vehicular traffic during this period.
