B’desh border forces shot dead Indian guard

DHAKA: Bangladeshi border forces shot dead an Indian border guard on Thursday following an altercation over an Indian fisherman the Bangladeshis had detained, international media reports have said.

According to the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB), it had fired in self-defense when Indian border guards entered into Bangladesh to take away the detained Indian fisherman.

An Indian guard has also been wounded, Indian authorities said.

The Indian fisherman was held as he was fishing in the Padma River at the border, where Bangladesh has banned fishing, reports said.

Bangladesh authorities meanwhile said they would hand over the Indian fisherman. Both Bangladesh and Indian sides have agreed to investigate the matter. (Agencies)
