‘146 died in road accidents in last fiscal year in Chitwan’

CHITWAN: A total of 146 people lost their lives in road accidents that took place in Chitwan last fiscal year.

The aforesaid number of people died in  295 traffic accidents according to the records maintained by the  District Traffic Police Office (DTPO), Chitwan, an increase compared to the previous fiscal year that witnessed 132 lives killed in 271 road accidents,  said.

Despite efforts to minimize road accidents, the number of such incidences went up. According to district traffic police, the highest number of accidents involved motorcycles.

A total of 40,029 drivers have been taken legal action for violating traffic rules in the last fiscal year leading to a revenue collection of Rs 30.76 million. Traffic police have said that high speed, narrow roads, and the increasing number of vehicles are blamed for the road accidents in Chitwan.
