Number of bird species increases in Shuklaphanta National Park



KANCHANPUR: The number of species of birds in the Kanchanpur-based Shuklaphanta National Park (SNP) has increased.

SNP chief conservation officer Laxman Poudel said that the number of species of birds has increased in the park.

According to the latest census (2019) concluded recently, the number of bird species in the Shuklaphanta National Park has reached 450.

There were only 424 bird species in the 2012 census.

The SNP is home to around 50 percent of bird species found in Nepal, which is home to 887 bird species.

Thirteen species considered rare in the world including Rajdhanesh, Bhundifor Garud, Kharamajur, Sunaulo Topchara, Sun Giddha, Sano Kharamajur, Simtitra, Bagale Bagedi, and Saras are found in the SNP.

The SNP is spread in an area of 305 square kilometers. It has Nepal’s largest pasture land besides being home to 16 Royal Bengal tigers and 17 rhinoceros.
