Traffic awareness campaign begins in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Metropolitan Traffic Police Division has kicked off a three-month awareness campaign targeting drivers, pedestrians, helpers and college-goers aimed at easing the traffic management in Kathmandu Valley and mitigating road accidents.

The concept of traffic awareness would be disseminated to the general public and the use of roads to develop it as a culture, according to the Division.

It has also hoped that practical use of traffic rules, lane discipline, and drivers’ behavioral changes would be in force to reduce road accidents.

Posters and pamphlets, stickers and audio-visual contents would also be displayed and distributed at different places.

Likewise, events would also be conducted at the schools targeting the students.

According to the Division, a total of 130 traffic police personnel would be mobilized in the campaign, and around 100,000 people would be made aware of within the campaign period.

Senior Superintendent of Police Bhim Prasad Dhakal said that 30,000 drivers and helpers of public transport, 15,000 drivers of private vehicles, 5,000 drivers serving at the government institutions and 20,000 pedestrians and students would be trained on road discipline and safety.
