Around 200 arrested in Assam for ‘conspiring’ against CAA

ASSAM: Police arrested nearly 200 people for ‘conspiring and indulging in violence’ in Assam, where violent protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act were held last week in various places of the state.

According to Assam police chief, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, around 190 protesters were arrested and that 136 cases were registered.

He claimed that there’s a political conspiracy behind the violence, adding that several conspirators had also been arrested, including some ‘major leaders’ from various organizations.

In addition to the arrests, more than 3,000 people have been detained in the state.

Police said four people were killed in police firing during the Assam protests. (Agencies)
