KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has assured that a Cabinet meeting will take a ‘necessary decision’ on the much-contended Guthi Bill.

The prime minister made the comments following a discussion with federal and provincial lawmakers and local representatives representing Kathmandu Valley on the bill on Monday.

Chief Whip of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NPC) Parliamentary Party Dev Prasad Gurung said that the prime minister told them that a Cabinet meeting will be summoned to address the grievance over the bill.

During the meeting, the lawmakers asked PM Oli to withdraw the bill saying that it would be tough to withstand the raging protest.

The highly-talked-about bill brought to ‘manage lands’ belonging to Guthis (religious, social trusts) has been widely protested and criticized, especially by the people of Kathmandu demanding its immediate withdrawal.

The controversial bill has proposed the formation of an authority to manage and oversee the lands currently managed by the Guthi Sansthan.
