KATHMANDU: Home Minister Sudan Gurung has directed authorities to expedite the construction of the Integrated Customs Office at Rasuwagadhi, which has remained under construction for the past eight years.
During an inspection visit, Gurung instructed officials to increase the number of workers and accelerate construction to complete the long-delayed project.
He warned that action would be taken against contractors who continue to delay the project after securing the contract, as well as against technical personnel and supervisors who fail to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
Local residents expressed hope that the minister’s directive would help ensure the timely completion of the project, which has faced significant delays since construction began eight years ago.
Following his inspection of the Rasuwagadhi border area, Gurung also instructed customs officials and security personnel to strengthen border security and ensure faster and more efficient public service delivery.
Police Inspector Bikram Kunwar of the Area Police Office in Timure said the minister’s visit had boosted the morale of security personnel deployed in the area.
Meanwhile, search operations have been intensified for the driver of an electric van who went missing in the Bhotekoshi River on Saturday evening. Chief District Officer Narendra Pariyar said a team of divers from Kathmandu has joined the search efforts.
