DFTQC bans productions of 22 industries

KATHMANDU: The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC) has banned the products of 22 industries on the charge of producing food items that are adverse to human health.

The move comes after the department carried out monitoring at industries operating in more than a dozen places throughout the country.

Director-General of the Department, Dr Matina Baidya said that the production of 22 industries was banned as these industries produced, distributed and sold unhealthy food items and drinking water, flouting the agreement with the Department and the license.

Baidhya, however, refused to divulge the names of the industries facing the ban.

She said that action would be taken against these industries as per the Food Quality Act, 2023 BS.

The Act stipulates a fine of Rs 50,000 and up to five years imprisonment if the charges against the industries are proved.
