NC CWC meeting to continue despite boycott by Poudel camp

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC), the main opposition, is holding a meeting of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the party on Sunday.

The meeting has been slated at the party’s headquarters in Sanepa this afternoon. The meeting has been summoned to discuss the proposals floated by President Sher Bahadur Deuba at CWC on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the leaders of senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel said they will not attend the meeting. Poudel, himself will not be present at the meeting as he is out of the town.

The establishment faction is planning to continue the central committee meeting scheduled today and discuss the formation of central departments despite.

It may be noted that senior leader Poudel side leaders had boycotted the December 12 central working committee meeting demanding presentation of work schedule for general convection.

If the timeframe stipulated in the party statute is followed, the 14th general convention should be held on 13 March 2020. The statute has granted authority to the party leadership to prolong the general convention by a year in case of special circumstances.

Poudel and Deuba on Saturday held a discussion to forge consensus on the matters concerning the upcoming 14th general convention. But, no agreement was reached.
