KATHMANDU: Preparations are underway to open the sluice of Kulekhani dam, popularly known as Indra Sarobar, after the water level reached the danger mark.
Locals of Bhimphedi, Indra Sarobar, Bagamati Rural Municipality of Makwanpur, Nunthar, Chandrapur, Cantin of Rautahat, various places of Sarlahi, and those inhabiting in the area of Hariharpurgadhi.
The people living on the bank of Bagmati River have been cautioned since the water of Kulekhani dam flows through the Kulekhane rivulet to the Bagmati River, Makwanpur CDO Ashman Tamang told Khabarhub.
Preparations are underway to reduce the water level of Kulekhani dam of Kulekhani Hydropower Project with a 92 megawatt (including first and second) to minimize the risk after it reached the dangerous mark.
Situated at an altitude of 114 meters from the ocean, Kulekhani dam with 300 meters in width and 7 km in length, has the capacity to hold 1,530 cubic meters of water.
The water volume in the reservoir was measured at 1,525 cubic meters by 6 am today. The human made lake had been constructed 37 years ago.
