Three arrested for offering bribe to cops

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested three persons including a bus driver on the charge of offering a bribe to cops in a hope of getting off the hook.

The arrestees are driver Shyam Bishwokarma, Deepa Rana of Surkhet and Bharat Tamang of Kakani, Nuwakot.

Kathmandu Police Chief SSP Basanta Lama said they were arrested from Chamati in the Capital City on Saturday. They had brought clothes worth around Rs 5.58 million illegally from India hiding it in a bus operating on New Delhi-Kathmandu route, according to police.

Police also confiscated Rs 300,000 offered as a bribe by the driver and Rs 50,000 from his accomplice Tamang.

Acting on a tip-off, police had raided the tourist bus.
