KATHMANDU: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen, Thamamaya Thapa has urged the international community to extend their support in order to promote reproductive rights and to attain the sustainable development goals within 2030.

She also urged the international, regional and national partners to support in Nepal’s efforts to control child marriage and forced marriage, violence against children and women as well as to end maternal mortality rate.

Addressing the ‘Nairobi Summit’ organized on the 25th anniversary of International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) at Nairobi, Minister Thapa said that the Government of Nepal has given topmost priority to ensure the expansion of sex education, adolescent-friendly services, and to enable youths to fully utilize their reproductive rights.

Minister Thapa said Nepal has supported ICPD and has been following it since the Cairo Summit held in 1994.

According to her, Nepal has also forwarded ICPD’s spirit — women’s rights, sustainable development, and reproductive rights – with importance.

A Nepali delegation led Minister Thapa had left for Nairobi on November 10 to take part in the summit.
