22,000 security personnel to be mobilized for SAG security

KATHMANDU: The preparation for the 13th South Asian Games (SAG)-2019 has reached a final stage. The SAG is being held from December 1 to 10.

A six-member security management committee led by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sarbendra Khanal has been formed in view of security of the tournament.

DIG Deepak Thapa, Armed Police Force DIG Chandra Prakash Gautam, Director of National Investigation Department Laxman Gurung, and Brigadier General of the Nepal Army Himanshu Khadka are the members in the team.

Similarly, a senior official of the National Sports Council Fanindra Paudel has been appointed as the secretary of the committee.

A total of 22,000 security personnel – 14,000 security personnel from the Nepal Police, 6,000 from Armed Police Force and 2,000 from plainclothes police – will be mobilized for the SAG’s security. Various sports competitions will be taking place in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Pokhara, and Janakpur.

Around 8,000 people including 5,000 players, coaches, and assistants from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, and Bhutan will participate in the tournament.
