50 houses face high risk of landslide



SANKHUWASABHA: As many as 50 houses have been facing high risk of landslide in Makalu rural municipality of Sankhuwasabha.

The households in ward no 3, 4 and 5 of Makalu rural municipality are facing imminent risk of landslide owing to the torrential rain occurred for three days, said acting chairperson of rural municipality, Chameli Rai.

More than a dozen of settlements, including Pawakhola, Pepewa, Sadekma, Chhirinte, Hedangnagadhi, Khoktak, Num, Amrang, Solakhani and Nayabasti are encircled by the landslides. People may be poised to risk at any time, she added, sharing the plight that rural municipality alone could not shift the people from 50 households to the safer places.

Earlier, 29 households from ward no 5 of the rural municipality had to be displaced owing to the landslide.

Ward no 5 Chairman Japan Gurung informed that the ward was also facing imminent risk of landslide. According to him, the affected people have been taking shelter at their relative’s homes in the neighbouring villages.
