KOLKATA: Doctors’ protest which started in Kolkata on Tuesday has now spread in major cities if India on the fourth day of the agitation, Indian media reports said.
The AIIMS Delhi, considered as one of the most important hospitals in India, also joined the protest bringing health services to a stalemate.
Patients and their families waited outside the Delhi-based AIIMS hospital today waiting for doctors to treat them. Likewise, hospitals in Patna, Mumbai, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Trivandram, and other cities have also been affected by the doctors’ agitation.
The doctors’ protests snowballed after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refused to acknowledge the agitation in Kolkata’s NRS Medical College and Hospital. She, instead, threatened doctors with ‘severe action’ if they didn’t resume their services at the earliest.
Doctors’ protest began on Monday when a patient, 75, at Kolkata’s NRS hospital died. The deceased’s family alleged medical negligence. A mob then barged into the hospital and injured one of the doctors there.
The doctors have demanded action against the wrongdoers’.
