WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has said he would meet Chinese President Xi Jinping next month, media reports have said.

Trump’s remarks come at a time when the trade war between the US and China — world’s two largest economies – have intensified in recent times.

Earlier, China had announced it would impose higher tariffs on a range of U.S. goods after Washington’s decision to hike levies on $200 billion in Chinese imports.

The U.S. Trade Representative’s office informed that it would hold a public hearing soon, most probably next month, on the possibility of imposing duties of up to 25 percent on a further US$300 billion worth of imports from China. (Agencies)
