KATHMANDU: The first sitting of the House of Representatives has been postponed today due to the obstruction by the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) lawmakers.
The RJPN legislators stood up from their respective seats in protest soon after Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara announced the meeting had started.
RJPN leader Raj Kishor Yadav, who made a statement after Speaker Mahara, allotted him time to speak, said that the reply of the Minister for Home Affairs in the earlier meeting of the House of Representatives regarding the report of the commission constituted under the chairmanship of former judge at the Supreme Court, Girish Chandra Lal, regarding the Madhesh and Tharuhat movements was not satisfactory.
Yadav said they would not allow the parliament to hold its meeting until that report was made public. “The government has dilly-dallied on our demand of making the Lal Commission’s report public and taken it lightly,” he charged. The commission was formed for finding out facts behind the incidents that took place in course of the Tharuhat movement in 2015.
Yadav said the report has not been made public by the government fearing that the state character would be exposed if the report was made public. He said that government was involved in giving a bad name to the Madhesh movement by spreading rumor against it.
After Yadav was done with his statement, Speaker Mahara urged the RJPN lawmakers to extend cooperation to continue with the meeting of the house by taking their seats as he has directed the government regarding this topic.
The speaker postponed the first meeting of the house for 10 minutes after the RJPN lawmakers did not oblige to his requests.
