JANAKPURDHAM: The Ministry of Internal Affairs, Communications and Law of Madhes Province has handed over 12 vehicles to the Nepal Police to enhance its capacity for maintaining peace and security.
The ministry provided one pickup van each to police offices in seven districts and two vehicles to Sarlahi district. The Chandrapur and Garuda Area Police Offices in Rautahat also received one vehicle each. The vehicles were handed over at a ceremony held in Janakpurdham on Monday.
Minister for Internal Affairs, Communications and Law Fakira Mahato said the provincial government has prioritized peace and security, as well as the protection of citizens’ lives and property, and that police personnel should be adequately equipped to carry out their duties.
“The ministry will continue to strengthen the capacity of police personnel by providing necessary resources,” Minister Mahato said.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police Om Prasad Adhikari expressed hope that the vehicles and other resources provided by the provincial government would help the police maintain peace and security more effectively.
According to ministry official Avinish Kumar Mishra, the pickup vans cost more than Rs 46.86 million, including VAT.
The ministry is also planning to provide 70 motorcycles to the Nepal Police to facilitate patrolling, according to planning officer Radheshyam Prasad Pal.
