Main accused of Durbarmarg gang-rape gets 5 yrs in jail



KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has sentenced the main accused of a gang-rape at the Durbarmarg-based Landmark Hotel to five years and two months in jail.

The court also ordered Sailesh Karki, the main accused (victim’s lover) to provide a compensation of Rs 700,000 to the victim.

A single bench of Judge Kamal Prasad Kharel ordered 14 months in jail to two other accused— Bikash Gautam and Deepak Shrestha.

They had raped the victim at the room of the hotel on January 21, 2018.

The gang-raped was made public after the Metropolitan Police Circle, Durbarmarg tried to settle the case in exchange of money to the victim’s family.
