Lumbini and its serenity  



Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, is one of the world’s important spiritual sites. The place, which attracts Buddhists and tourists from around the world, boasts of over 25 Buddhist monasteries built by various countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Germany, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, South Korea, and other countries.

Located in Nepal’s Kapilvastu district, Lumbini is one of the famous tourist destinations. The place offers a variety of attractions such as monasteries, garden, ponds, stupas, and the Ashoka Pillar as well as the events related to Buddha’s life.

This was the place where Maya Devi gave birth to Buddha, Siddhartha Gautam. In Lumbini, UNESCO’s world heritage site, one can find various inscriptions, bricks and several pieces of evidence of being the Buddha’s birthplace. The place was rediscovered by Nepali archaeologists in 1896.

Another attraction is the Ashoka Pillar which is believed to have been built during 249 BC by Emperor Ashoka of India.

The Myanmar Golden Temple, which is one of the oldest structures there, is another major attraction of Lumbini.

Lumbini Museum, which houses photos and artifacts, is dedicated to the life of Gautam Buddha.

How to reach Lumbini?

One can take a flight from Kathmandu to Bhairahawa, Siddharthanagar, 22 km away from Lumbini from where one can take buses. One can even travel by bus from Kathmandu to Sunauli, which is some 30 km from Lumbini. From there, one can even take a cab.
