KATHMANDU: The Melamchi Water Supply Development Board has signed a tender to construct the headworks on the source of the Melamchi Water Supply Project (MWSP).

It has signed the tender agreement with the Chinese company Sinohydro to construct the headworks. The company owns a contract for completing the remaining works of a tunnel construction under the MWSP.

According to Board information officer senior divisional engineer Rajendra Prasad Panta, the deadline for completing the construction works is 15 months and it is expected to cost Rs 1.2 billion. The company will carry out a field study and begin the work in the next 15 days.

The Sinohydro was awarded the contract of constructing the remaining tunnel works after the Italian Company CMC last year fled without completing the project.
