Pokhara Police launches drive against gambling, 34 arrested in two days

POKHARA: Pokhara Police has launched a drive against gambling with the festive season approaching.

Police, in the last two days, rounded up 34 gamblers from four different parts of the city and also confiscated Rs 221,990.

Police Inspector Ganesh Subedi said that police raided gambling dens in Pokhara metropolis 5, 8, 32 and 16 and rounded up 34 gamblers on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, police raided a rented room of one Kamal Ranabhat located in Pokhara-5, Parsyang and arrested eight persons including Kamal. Police seized four decks of playing cards and Rs 121,140 from their possession.

Likewise, acting on a tip-off, police arrested seven persons including Bal Krishna Sharma. Sharma is the owner of Hotel Niraj located at Pokhara-8, Naagdhunga. Police also seized four decks of playing cards and Rs 62,835 during the raid at the third floor of the hotel.

Similarly, 11 gamblers including Rajaram Poudel were arrested during a raid at Poudel’s cowshed located at Pokhara-32, Jhairichowk on Sunday. Police seized Rs 32,815 from their possession.

Moreover, police arrested eight persons including homeowner Durga Ghale during a raid at his house in Pokhara-16, Deep. Police recovered three decks of playing cards and Rs 25,200 from their possession.
