Bakra Eid being observed across country



KATHMANDU: Bakra Eid, the greatest of festival of Muslims,  is being celebrated in Nepal. Muslim devotees have thronged mosques situated in various parts of the country. A religious tradition has it that Bakra Eid is celebrated on the 70th day of Ed Al Fitr or Ramadan, which marks the end of the festival.

On this holy day, Muslims get up early in the morning, take baths, go to nearby mosque and read namaz, the holy scripture of Muslims and exchange greetings with each other.

Muslim devotees have thronged Zame mosque and Kashmiri mosque in the capital early today. ” After reading Namaz, Muslim devotees exchange greetings among friends and will go to their respective houses where they sacrifice (Qurbani) goats.

Meanwhile,  Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has extended best wishes to all Muslim sisters and brothers in and outside the country on the occasion of Bakra Eid.

In a message of best wishes today, PM Oli said, “On this occasion, thousands of Muslim followers go for Hajj pilgrimage. I want to give greetings to 1,500 Nepali Muslims who have gone to the holy cities of Mecca and Madina for Hajj pilgrimage this year.”

The government has given holiday today in Province No 2 and 5.
