Child dies after landslide buries house in Lalitpur



KATHMANDU: A boy died when the landslide buried a house at Bagmati rural municipality-2 in Lalitpur district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Saroj Jimma, 11, son of Panchalal Jimma, according to the Bagmati rural municipality. Two sons of Panchalal were trapped in the house buried by the landslide.

Although the locals began to rescue the trapped ones soon after the incident, they could save one only child, said Chief of Metropolitan Police Circle, Chapagaun, Ram Krishna Sapkota, quoting chairperson of the Bagmati rural municipality, Bir Bahadur Lopchan.

The police have not been able to reach the incident site yet due to floods in the Khanikhola rivulet. However, telephone contact with the rural municipality is continued, he added.

Transport service has been completely disrupted in three rural municipalities of the district –Konjyosom, Bagmati and Mahankal – when a landslide occurred at different places since Thursday night, added Sapkota.

Similarly, different road sections including Kanti Highway and Lele-Gotikhel have been obstructed, according to the police.
