Monsoon-triggered landslides claim six in separate places



KATHMANDU: Six people died and five others sustained injuries in landslides, lightning strikes and floods triggered by incessant rains continuing for the last three days.

Two people were killed after a landslide struck their house at Nala of Banepa Municipality-3, Kavre. The deceased have been identified as Goma Dangal, 50, and her seven-year-old granddaughter Sohani Dangal.

Similarly, 45-year-old Padam Kumari Sunuwar was killed by a landslide in Rampur in Ramechhap district. Another one sustained injuries in the incident, said police.

Likewise, a man was killed in Bhojpur district after a wall of his house caved in due to monsoon rains. The deceased has been identified as Jagat Bahadur Rai, 66, in Ram Prasad Rai Rural Municipality-7, said police.

In yet another landslide incident, a 14-year-old minor died in Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality-9 in Bhojpur district. Janak BK died after a landslide came down on him while he was relieving himself on Friday morning.

A minor boy died in a house collapse due to rain in Bagmati Rural Municipality-2, Baguwa in Lalitpur district. The deceased is 11-year-old Saroj Jimba, said Metropolitan Police Range Office, Lalitpur.

Similarly, 40-year-old Nirmal Karki has been injured in lightning strikes at Bittijor of Golanchor Rural Municipality-2 in Sindhuli district, said police. Critically injured Karki has been taken to Gwaltar Health Post for treatment.

 

According to National Emergency Operation Center at the Home Ministry, a total of 11 districts have been affected by the land slides. According to Nepal Police Headquarters, Naxal, floods have affected Sunsari, Mahottari, Rautahat, Chitwan and Sindhuli, Palpa, Kathmandu, Panchthar, and Makwanpur districts.
