Mahat’s ‘Trials, Tremors and Hope’ launched

KATHMANDU: Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat’s new book ‘Trials, Tremors, and Hope: Political Economy of Contemporary Nepal’ was launched today amid a program in Kathmandu.

Launching the book, Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, former President of Nepal, said that the government should be concerned about the environment protection. He expressed his concern about the destruction of forest, wildlife and degradation of the environment and the Chure area due to the construction of infrastructures.

Commenting on the book, he said that the book missed the issue of the impact of environmental degradation due to the development process.

Similarly, Surendra Pandey, Member of Parliament and former Minister of Finance, said that the writer has failed to express his opinion regarding the citizenship issue. He also suggested that it would be better had the writer included topics such as land reforms in economic development.

Speaking at the launching program, Dr Swarnim Wagle said that the book has highlighted most of the economic issues and it is a dossier who wants to know the economic development of Nepal. “The book has also highlighted the plural, liberal and democratic economic development with a lot of optimistic ideas”, he said.

Likewise, Dr. Bindu Lohani, Kanak Mani Dixit, Dr. Minendra Rijal talked about the different facets that the writer has raised in his book.

The book has highlighted the economic agenda that Nepal has implemented so far and has also pointed out some of the issues that Nepal should follow to enhance its economic status.

The program was organized by the Institute for Strategic and Socio-Economic Research (ISSR).
