DADELDHURA: The Nepal Army (NA) helicopter is flying back without Dr Govinda KC following the protest of his supporters.

KC’s supporters demonstrated on the premises of Dadeldhura Hospital saying that the police administration cannot take him back against his will.

NA chopper had flown to Dadeldhura district after the hospital administration and the civil society urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to send a helicopter to airlift KC to a sophisticated hospital in Kathmandu for his treatment.

Chief District Officer (CDO) Raju Prasad Paudel held an all-party meeting comprising civil society members, representatives of the hospital and KC’s supporters. Following the protest that KC was being airlifted to Kathmandu forcefully against his will, CDO Paudel decided to send back the helicopter without KC.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health and Population had directed the administration of Bir and Teaching Hospital to keep doctors standby and keep the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)  ready for the treatment of agitating Dr KC after sending the NA chopper to Dadeldhura to airlift KC.

Earlier, tension ran high on the premises of Dadeldhura Hospital after the police administration tried to shift  Senior Orthopedic Dr Govinda KC, who is on a fast-onto death, to Provincial Hospital, Dhangadhi.

Doctors attending to KC had referred him to a sophisticated hospital saying that his health condition was deteriorating. “His blood pressure is increasing and heartbeats are irregular,” said doctors.

Dr KC has been on a fast-unto-death for the 17th time demanding reforms in the medical education sector.
