KATHMANDU: Over 1,000 refugees from 10 countries including Bhutan, Tibet, Myanmar and Africa are taking shelter in Nepal.

They are taking refuge here in Nepal taking advantage of Nepal’s liberal visa policy and open border, a report in Naya Patrika said.

Some have made Nepal a transit point for getting access to third countries while some have settled down by abandoning their passport.

Nepal is not liable to accept refugees since it has not signed the 1951 Refugee Convention of the United Nations, neither does it have its own clear-cut refugee law.
