Home Minister seeks everyone’s help for peace, security

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has urged all sides concerned to extend support from their sides to maintain peace and security in the country.

At a program organized by the National Human Rights Commission on the occasion of the 71st International Human Rights Day on Tuesday, Minister Thapa reiterated that the government was committed to protecting citizen’s freedoms and human rights.

“Nepal is currently on the national campaign of prosperity and happiness, and the government is committed to the protection of human rights,” he said, informing that some of the recommendations made by NHRC were implemented by the government and some were in the phase of implementation.

Some laws are being amended to conclude transitional justice, he reminded.

On the occasion, NHRC Chairman Anupraj Sharma said the country was still suffering various sorts of human rights violations and social evils as violence against women, child marriage, justice inaccessible to victims, racial discrimination.

The NHRC Chair reminded the government that all citizens were not able to enjoy rights and freedom guaranteed by the constitution. He strongly urged the government to ensure justice to the needy ones including marginalized community, minority, women, Dalit, senior citizens.
