Red carpet laid over slushy land full of morass for PM Oli

Bhattarai wrote: No chance to build the country

KATHMANDU: As Prime Minister K P Oli was going to attend the 60th annual function of Tribhuvan University (TU), he was to walk through a patch of the morass. But, he was made to walk on a red carpet spread over all the way above the soft slushy land to prevent the Prime Minister from getting his feet soiled.

Prime Minister Oli walked over it on the red carpet with a lot of criticism pouring in from all across the country. While PM Oli is heading both the party and government that claims to represent poorest of the poor section of the Nepalese society, he has emerged as a filthy symbol of being too aristocratic in his behavior and demeanor.

Education minister Girijamani Pokharel was also accompanying the Prime Minister in the said program of the TU. Prime Minister was also supposed to inaugurate the newly built temple located near the residence of Vice-Chancellor at the occasion of the celebration of the annual day of the TU.

The visual in which Prime Minister Oli was walking over the red carpet with muddy morass underneath has gone viral in social sites. More the social site users view the video of PM Oli walking over the red carpet, more they share with others with criticism tagged to it.

Former Prime Minister and the Chairman of the Nepal Socialist Party Dr. Baburam Bhattarai also plunged into the race of criticizing the aristocratic attitude of incumbent Prime Minister Oli. Dr. Bhattarai launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Oli through a tweet: ”Tribhuvan University — the prime center to churn out wisdom and pivot of knowledge has gone over to receive the country’s executive head by making him walk on the red carpet just because soil must not stick to his shoes and feet while stepping on morass underneath. These wise bunch of men claiming themselves to be knowledge producer and the PM Oli who walked on the red carpet as brazenly as he could have let down the whole country. We cannot expect anything from them for building this country up.”

Dr. Bhattarai suggested that the money which was spent to build temple should have been diverted towards laying concrete pitch on the muddy track full of slush and morass. Dr. Bhattarai wonders how to teach someone whose intelligence is upside down working in reverse direction. He tweeted that intellectuals of the country’s prime producer of knowledge were busy covering up the things which were obvious in a state of thing the way it exists. And, the way PM Oli propelled himself to walk on the red carpet was hard to explain. The money supposed to build up the university and the connecting link roads should not have been diverted to construct a temple. Instead, money should have been used to make the pitch concrete on the way.”
