KATHMANDU: Following protest by the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC), Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) adjourned today’s session of the HoR.

Nepali Congress lawmakers disrupted the smooth functioning of Monday’s sessions seeking a response from Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa to their concerns over what they said ‘brutal’ police intervention during a protest in Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Saturday against the proposed Guthi Bill.

NC lawmakers, including Bal Krishna Khand and others alleged the government of breaching the constitution by tabling the Guthi Bill in the parliament. They also came down heavily on the government for restricting the right to organize peaceful assembly.

They also alleged the government for trying to wipe out the country’s tradition, religion and culture in various pretexts.

Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara then adjourned the parliament session. Meanwhile, issuing a notice, Speaker Mahara said that the next session of the parliament will take place on Tuesday.
