Nepal, China ink three agreements

KATHMANDU: Nepal and China have signed three agreements on mutual cooperation and partnership. The delegation from the two countries led by respective Foreign Ministers signed two letters of exchange and a Memorandum of Understanding.

Finance Secretary, Rajan Khanal, and China’s International Development Cooperation Agency’s Vice Chairman, Deng Boking, signed the letter of exchange on the reconstruction of emergency shelters and Manang hospital in the presence of Chinese Minister for Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, and Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali.

For the emergency shelter, China would provide 9.5 million Yuan and 220 million Yuan for the reconstruction of the Manang Hospital.

Similarly, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang announced to provide Rs 16 million in aid to flood victims of Nepal.

The assistances are as a part of the aid announced by China during President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s visit to the northern neighbor.

During the meeting, both sides had reviewed the treaties and agreements reached between the two countries in the past.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Gyawali, Finance Minister Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada, Nepal’s ambassador to China, Leela Mani Poudyal, Foreign Secretary Bairagi, Finance Secretary Rajan Khanal, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kali Prasad Pokharel, among the senior officials participated in the consultations from Nepal’s side.

The Chinese side was led by Foreign Minister Wang comprises Chinese Foreign Secretary Lu Zhoubi, China’s ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi, Vice-Chair of Chinese International Development Cooperation Agency, officials of the Asia Department at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other senior officials.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang is currently in Nepal on a three-day official visit.
