Electricity buses coming into operation from today

KATHMANDU: Electric city buses are coming into operation in the Kathmandu Valley from today. Two buses powered by electricity will provide transport services from 1 pm today, said Sundar Yatayat P. Ltd .

It is learnt that the electric transport service will be inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Ishwar Pokharel from Bhrikutimandap at 12 pm.

Sundar Yatayat P. Ltd is planning to bring five additional buses that will ply the Ring Road. The company has planned to procure 25 buses this year, informed Bhesh Bahadur Thapa, chairman of the company.

The  bus will a 40-seater. The company has claimed that the battery can be fully charged within 40 minutes. The company has set up a battery charging station at Bhatkopul in Sinamangal.

The government had forwarded a policy in policies and programs of the government to operate the electric city buses in the major cities of the seven States across the country.

The electric vehicles will be an effective means of transportation for a clean environment and to reduce increasing air pollution in the cities.
