KATHMANDU: Narcotic Control Bureau of Nepal Police arrested Zang Chao, a Chinese national with 4.2 kg ephedrine. The chemical seized from him is not a narcotic drug, but a key substance used to make amphetamine, methamphetamine (ice) and ya ba.
Zang was sending the chemical to New Zealand through a cargo. He had packeted it in the wooden frame with a false bottom wrapped by a blue paper.
In the primary revelation, he is said to have stated that it was bought in 225 thousand Nepali rupees and was planning to sell it in New Zealand in 5 million rupees. How he managed to bring it to Nepal is not clear yet.
According to the bureau sources, the chemical was imported taking permission from the Drug Management Department. The ephedrine and pseudoephedrine seized on Friday were imported taking advantage of Nepal’s provision and was being trafficked.
Such drugs are imported from one country and exported to another country.
Earlier in the drug smuggling case made public in Aug. 2016, Shanghai Group was found involved directly.
Another group of Chinese arrested 3 years earlier included Yang Cheng Quan, Yang Mo Chang, and Zheng Zu Min and were found executing the narco business staying in Hong Kong.
