District hospitals to be upgraded: Health Minister Yadav



KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population, Upendra Yadav has said works are on to upgrade the existing district hospitals into second-class health facilities.

Such facilities will have maternity, pediatric and surgery facilities with the management of required human resources and specialists.

In his replies today in the National Assembly in regard with concerns raised during the deliberations on several headings related to the Ministry of Health and Population under the Appropriation Bill-2076 BS, the minister said efforts were underway to transform the Doti Hospital in the Far-West State and Birgunj-based Narayani Hospital in the State 2, into specialized healthcare facilities.

He briefed the session that the ministry was working on various plans to ensure access to mass basic healthcare services. He announced the premium of health insurance of the indigent community will be borne by the government. “The health insurance program presently covers 64 districts, out of 77, and the budget allocated for the health sector in existing time is not sufficient to expand health facilities to all,  efforts are on to ensure all’s equitable access to health.
