Businessman Roop Jyoti arrested over dupery case

KATHMANDU: Renowned businessman Roop Jyoti has been arrested on Thursday night over a dupery case.

A team of police deployed from Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu arrested Roop Jyoti who is also a former Assistant Minister for Finance from Tribhuvan International Airport. Police were tipped off about his arrival.

He is currently Vice Chairman of Jyoti Group.

Last year, Kathmandu District Court had permitted police to arrest him for allegedly duping people through real estate business.

He had moved the Supreme Court (SC) seeking to vacate the order. The apex court had issued an interim order to the law enforcement authority not to arrest him immediately.

But on Tuesday, the apex court vacated the interim order that paved the way for police to arrest him.
