KATHMANDU: Nepal is currently under the influence of monsoon winds, with westerly winds also affecting weather conditions in parts of the country, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.
The Division said the monsoon trough is positioned south of its normal climatological location, while a low-pressure system has formed over the North Andaman Sea. The system is expected to strengthen in the coming days and move west-northwestward.
The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the Himalayan and hilly regions, as well as Madhesh Province and parts of the Terai in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. The Terai areas of Koshi, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces are likely to experience partly cloudy conditions.
Moderate rain or snowfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, is likely at isolated locations in the Himalayan and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, while scattered rainfall is expected in Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Similarly, moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is likely at scattered locations in Madhesh Province and the Terai areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces. Isolated rainfall is also possible in parts of Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.
The division has forecast heavy rainfall in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces. Residents in areas vulnerable to flooding, landslides and other weather-related hazards are advised to remain alert as conditions may change rapidly.
